Thanks to the financial crisis and Brexit, Britain has lost all of its global functions in one great rush. It has not cut such a pathetic figure on the global stage since Suez
The New York Times leads with a look at how a top agenda item for lawmakers this week will be to try to figure out what to do about the 10.6 percent cut in doctors' Medicare fees that automatically went into effect earlier this month. Keeping the Gaelic language alive in Scotland
After centuries of persecution, prejudice and neglect, Gaelic finally achieved a degree of official recognition in 2005.
In Scotland, the northern part of the United Kingdom, there are some 50,000 people who speak Gaelic. On the Outer Hebrides, to the north west of Scotland and in some parts of the mainland, the ancient Celtic language Gaelic is still in everyday use. But, according to the U.K. census figures, the number of Scottish Gaelic speakers has been falling for some years now - in spite of the widespread popularity of Gaelic folklore and music.

Initial satellite development is being provided by French defense company Thales SA. The O3b business plan calls for regional ISPs and telecommunications providers to utilize the satellites for high-speed internet access in their respective regions. The company said the system's more than 2,000 transponder equivalents will be able to deliver Internet backhaul at speeds of 10 Gbps. The system has been configured so additional satellites can be added as needed.
In the context of broadcasting, backhaul refers to uncut program content that is transmitted point-to-point to an individual television or radio station, broadcast network or other receiving entity where it will be integrated into a finished TV show or radio show. The term is independent of the medium being used to send the backhaul, but satellite transmission is very common.
