Japan posts first current account deficit in 13 years


Japan has posted its first current account deficit in 13 years. The country's finance ministry released data which showed that Japanese exports plummeted in January, triggering a record deficit of 1.8 billion dollars for the first month of the year. The world's second largest economy, which is heavily reliant on exports, is seen as a major indicator of the direction of global trade. The current account measures the net value of trade and transactions between countries.
