《經濟學人》（The Economist）作Hotel Babylon（By Imogen Edwards-Jones and Anonymous） 的書評：Ever-revolving doors （Aug 12th 2004）時，不忘引1933年Orwell在《巴黎‧倫敦流浪記》(Down and Out in Paris and London)說的：

百人做牛做馬，盡想贏得兩百位豪客的歡心掏腰包多付款附，然而他們作出的東西，或許不是客方真正要的，而是想藉機表現霸氣。------經過70年，流行 最先端大飯店的廚房工作環境之本質，並沒有多大改變。

In the kitchens, working conditions sound not dissimilar to those described by George Orwell in "Down and Out in Paris and London" in 1933. For Orwell, "a smart hotel is a place where 100 people toil like devils in order that 200 may pay through the nose for things they do not really want."
