high ground , focal point, gain ground

The Los Angeles Times and USA Today lead with Obama issuing a series of executive orders to reverse some of the most controversial counterterrorism policies of the Bush administration. Claiming the "moral high ground" in the fight against al-Qaida, Obama ordered Guantanamo to be closed within a year, shut down the CIA prisons overseas, and prohibited the use of harsh interrogation techniques.



In the race to win acceptance for its smart phone worldwide, Google is gaining ground on Apple. Steve Jobs and Co. still don’t have the iPhone in China, after talks with the country’s largest cellular operator, China Mobile, stalled. (See this BusinessWeek story I wrote back in January.)
