Once China’s ‘Worst Nightmare,’ Labor Activist Refuses to Back Down

Neither jail nor exile to Hong Kong has stopped Han Dongfang, a former Tiananmen Square protest leader, from championing workers’ rights.

曾經的中國“最可怕的噩夢”,勞工維權人士拒絕讓步

無論是入獄或流亡香港,都沒有阻止前天安門廣場抗議領袖韓東方捍衛工人權利。

“Democracy is about who decides our salaries,” Mr. Han, now 61, recalled shouting out to the crowd from the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Beijing. “Workers should be able to take part in the decision.”

A Sitting President, Riling the Nation During a Crisis

By ALEXANDER BURNS, MAGGIE HABERMAN, JONATHAN MARTIN and NICK CORASANITI
By smearing his opponents, championing conspiracy theories and pursuing vendettas, President Trump has reverted to his darkest political tactics in spite of a pandemic hurting millions of Americans.

A haiku poem by Tenko Kawasaki goes: "Hot sake/ Shared by men/ Who sat out the vendetta." The men referred to here are obviously ronin from Ako, but the poem also reminds me of the sort of pathos felt by Japanese company workers today.

An angry husband's vendetta against Steven Rattner put a five-year-old extramarital affair in the public eye and ultimately led to the executive's resignation last week as the head of Credit Suisse's buyout arm, Andrew Ross Sorkin writes in his latest DealBook column in The New York Times.

A spokesman for Mr Chen said the sentence was "illegal", pointing to a decision to replace the judges in mid-trial. The former president has said he will appeal.
Mr Chen has previously said the charges were constructed by the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) government in a political vendetta. He has admitted accepting money but said it was campaign contributions.

UNPOPULAR, isolated, and facing the humiliation of impeachment, Pervez Musharraf resigned as president of Pakistan on Monday August 18th. In an emotional address, he accused his opponents of pursuing a “vendetta” against him. Even before the speech ended, they were dancing in the streets.
