in the know, privy, sundial, pragmatist, privy to《十八世紀英國紳士的大旅遊》

Even without visitors, the British Museum is never completely silent. At night, its security guards are privy to the building’s most intimate sounds: scrapes and groans, clanks and hums. Many of them have reported events that they believe to be supernatural activity.

Much of what they had to say was already familiar to many in the audience; the subject has been closely followed in the nuclear industry. But the sheer power of the story, some fresh details, and the continuing mysteries about some of its particular twists, kept the audience captivated. And hearing the story from people as in the know as anyone is likely to clarify some things—including which questions need further clarification.

in the know

Privy to special or secret information, as in Not too many people are in the know about this project. [Late 1800s]

The Pantheon: Hadrian's giant sundial…..

A Pragmatist and his free spirit: the half-century romance of Hu Shih and Edith Clifford Williams – (胡適與韋蓮司:深情五十年 到 A Pragmatist and his free spirit:...)

The Compleat Gentlemen (p.33) vs. The Complete Gentlemen (p.46) ;容易令人誤解的”public school” (現在多改稱為independent school)作者用「公學」,而引張漢裕翻譯的《國富論》則採用錯誤的「公立學校」。
