英國廣播公司(BBC)中文網報導,由於2008年北京奧運已進入倒數計時階段,北京市政府終於痛下決心,整頓令人啼笑皆非的英文標示,以免淪為國際社會的笑柄。
這些錯誤百出的英文標示是由一群在北京居住的外國人拍下,並貼在網路上(www.flickr.com/groups/chinglish)。不但被網友爭相轉載,甚至成為北京外國人茶餘飯後的笑話。
英文菜單有看沒懂
不僅機場,北京長安大街上,一處警告行人注意路滑的標示卻譯成語意不通的「The Slippery are Very Crafty」(那些滑的是非常狡猾的)。而遊覽景點「中華民族園」,牌子上的英文卻被譯為含有歧視意味的「Racist Park」(種族主義者公園)。
到餐館品嚐中國佳餚,菜單也讓不識中文的老外看得一頭霧水。「鐵板牛肉」被譯成「有皺紋的鐵牛肉」(Corrugated iron beef);名酒「二鍋頭」譯成「二個小鍋蓋的頭」(Small two pots of heads);而「生魚片」則成了「砍那陌生的魚」(Chop the strange fish)。
更離譜的是,一家超市販售乾果的賣場區,竟被譯為「Fuck the fruit area」(與水果發生性關係的地方),簡直令人匪夷所思。
台南車站也鬧笑話
事實上,台灣也鬧過類似笑話。台南火車站廁所內的烘手機英文標示,原應為hand dryer,但竟被譯為「Bake the Call-Phone」(烘「手機」,手機正確拼法應為cell phone),照片還被網友不斷轉貼流傳,相當尷尬。
