The bizarre side effects of a drug used to treat Parkinson’s disease
Mirapex is a drug that’s been widely prescribed in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
But hundreds of patients have complained about devastating and bizarre side effects.
They claim that since taking the medication they find themselves in the grip of an uncontrollable urge. Most often they feel compelled to gamble heavily. There have been other cases of compulsive shopping, eating and having sex.
These cases have frequently resulted in broken marriages, bankruptcy, depression and even suicide.
As a major international lawsuit looms, Stephen Beard reports on the likely causal link between the drug and the compulsive disorders.
