IKEA Recalls to Repair Chest of Drawers Due to Laceration Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: “KVIBY” Chests
Units: About 5,000 (an additional 26,000 were sold outside of the U.S.)
Manufacturer: IKEA Home Furnishings, of Conshohocken, Pa.
Hazard: The glass drawer knobs on the chest can break either during assembly or in use, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: IKEA has received three reports of laceration injuries requiring medical attention. An additional 11 injuries occurred outside of the U.S.
Description: The recalled KVIBY Chest is white with 4 drawers and 6 glass knobs. The recall includes chests with article number 201-080-90 and a date stamp of 0817 (first two digits indicate the year; the second two digits indicate the week) or earlier. The article number and date stamp are located on a label attached to the underside of the chest. KVIBY chests with a date stamp of 0818 and later have improved replacement knobs and screws and are not included in the recall.
Sold at: IKEA stores nationwide from August 2007 through July 2008 for about $300.
Manufactured in: Denmark
Remedy: Consumers should protect their hands and carefully remove the glass knobs. Contact IKEA to receive free replacement knobs and screws by mail.

Reebok International Ltd. Recalls Exercise Cycles Due to Laceration Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Reebok Studio Exercise Cycles
Units: About 20,000
Manufacturer: Fitness Associates Incorporated (F.A.I.), under license from Reebok International Ltd., of Canton, Mass. Note: F.A.I. is no longer in business.
Hazard: The alloy cranks on the exercise cycles can break during use, posing a laceration and abrasion hazard to users.

Name of Product: Toy Penguin Figures
Units: About 3,000
Manufacturer: Plan Toy Inc., of Mountain View, Calif.
Hazard: The head of the penguin toy can detach, exposing connectors with sharp points, presenting a laceration hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: Plan Toys has received one report of the head of a penguin toy detaching. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The wood penguin-shaped toy has a black head with rubber fins, a yellow nose and a white body with red on the base. The toy is round-shaped and creates a soft bell jingle when spun. The toy measures about 3 ¾ inches in height and about 3 inches in diameter. “PLAN TOYS” and UPC number 084543521109 or EAN number 8854740052117 are printed on the outside of the packaging of the toy.

Name of Product: Starbucks Barista® Blade Grinders and Seattle’s Best Coffee® Blade Grinders
Units: About 530,000
Importer: Starbucks Coffee Co., of Seattle, Wash.
Manufacturer: Tsann Kuen (Zhangzhou) Enterprise Co. Ltd. ("TKL"), of China
Hazard: The grinder can fail to turn off or can turn on unexpectedly, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 176 reports of grinders that failed to turn off or that turned on unexpectedly, including three reports of hand lacerations that occurred when the grinders turned on unexpectedly during cleaning.
