Tutor's tip: After studying all day in the "carrel" (small cubicle used for individual study in the library), she went to the "carole" (a round dance) where they also sang a beautiful "carol" (joyous Christmas song).

Courtly dance of western Europe in the 12th and 13th centuries. It may have been a round dance or a processional one and was always performed as a dance-song. The basse danse replaced it c 1350 as the most fashionable courtly dance.
