Mo·hawk2 ('hôk') pronunciation
n., pl., -hawks.
A hairstyle in which the scalp is shaved except for an upright strip of hair that runs across the crown of the head from the forehead to the nape of the neck.

In 1961, Vogue magazine said that “almost every famous female head in the world has gone or will go” to Kenneth, the hairdresser who created Jacqueline Kennedy’s legendary bouffant and softened the golden locks of Marilyn Monroe.

A bouffant /bˈfɑːnt/ is a type of hairstyle characterized by hair piled high on the head and hanging down on the sides.

History

The bouffant was a mainstream hairstyle in the mid-to-late 18th century in western Europe. It was thought to be created for Marie Antoinette, as she had relatively thin hair and wanted to create the illusion of having very full hair. The modern bouffant is considered to have been invented by Raymond Bessone.[1]
The hairstyle again became popular during the 1960s and early 1970s.

The hunt for those elusive white truffles

The white truffle season has been drawing to an end in the Italian region of Tuscany. Known as the “diamond of the earth” or “food of the king”, the tartufo bianco, has attracted superlatives for decades.

It might be humble in appearance. But this underground fungus is the basis of many haute cuisine dishes and can command astronomical prices. During its growing season, gourmets and buyers travel from around the world to join in the hunt for the white truffle. But as Jean Di Marino reports, it's a rare find and it's becoming rarer every year.

A faggot or fagot is a bundle of sticks or branches, usually meant for use as firewood. It derives [1] through the Old French fagot and the Italian diminutive fagotto from the Latin Fasces ("bundle", also the origin of the word Fascism), coming into Middle English no later than 1279. It has also been used on occasion to refer more specifically (attested from 1555 in English) to wood for funeral pyres or a burning at the stake, and recanting heretics had to wear an embroidered figure of a faggot on their sleeve.

It was late, almost midnight, inside a plastic tent the size of a used-car dealership set down in the distant gardens of Saint-Cloud. Waiters had brought around plates of ravioli with more truffles than pasta and big sticks of crab leg wrapped in sole and buckets of Perrier-Jouët. When the models finally appeared, they wore poufy berets atop their crimped French-poodle hairdos, a little like Goldie Hawn in “Private Benjamin.” The music was Barry White, and the mood was just as smooth. The show felt as if it was from another time — specifically, the 1970s — when fashion was just for the moment and not so complicated.
