The Wall Street Journal leads its world-wide newsbox with Sen. John McCain announcing that he would reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the United States if he's elected president. In a speech that aides said marked a break with President Bush, McCain vowed to work more closely with Russia on nuclear disarmament. Although McCain said nuclear weapons are "still important to deter an attack" he emphasized that "we must seek to do all we can to ensure that nuclear weapons will never again be used."

Investor Carl Icahn is stepping up his rhetoric against Yahoo Inc., accusing the Internet company's chief executive officer, Jerry Yang, and its board of being disingenuous about their willingness to consider Microsoft Corp.'s acquisition offer and of taking costly steps to deter any deal.
It's a pleasant thought to consider as we enjoy our last shaved ice of the season on a still sultry evening, keeping in mind our forebears, who called the Red Planet Natsu-hiboshi, the Chinese characters which mean "summer's day star."

If an American first lady, or would-be first lady, described herself as a “tamer of men” and had a “man-eating” past filled with naked pictures, Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, sultry prone CD covers, breaking up marriages, bragging that she believes in polygamy and polyandry rather than monogamy, and having a son with a married philosopher whose father she had had an affair with, it would take more than an appearance on “The View” to sweeten her image.
