caldera lake 火山口湖
crater lake 火山湖,火口湖*
Spotlight
It was thanks to
William Gladstone Steel that on this date in 1902, President
Theodore Roosevelt signed a bill establishing
Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. At 1,932 ft (589 m),
Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the US and the seventh deepest in the world. As its name suggests, it is a
caldera lake: its water fills a deep depression that resulted from the collapse of a volcanic mountain. Aside from its startlingly clear, blue water, one of the lake's most famous features is a
full-sized tree trunk that has been drifting vertically in the water for more than a hundred years.
Quote
"A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature." —
Henry David Thoreau
