As more and more pubs are closing, Britons are confronting the unthinkable: life without a “local,” as pubs are known.
ROUGHLY two-and-a-half years after the revolutions in the Arab world, not a single country is yet plainly on course to become a stable, peaceful democracy. The countries that were more hopeful—Tunisia, Libya and Yemen—have been struggling. A chaotic experiment with democracy in Egypt, the most populous of them, has landed an elected president behind bars. Syria is awash with the blood of civil war.

The wine will not be sold as champagne – a moniker that is still reserved for wines from the eponymous region – but it will aim to satiate Asia's booming demand for bubbly.
Just south of Inner Mongolia and 900km west of Beijing, Ningxia's climactic conditions are not far removed from those of Champagne, with the Yellow River substituting for the placid Marne.
