After 3,000 Hits, Even Dirt Will Sell

Derek Jeter’s 3,000th career hit will be a cause for celebration and merchandising, starting with collection buckets of the ballpark dirt.



When the measuring cap that comes with the medicine bottle gets gooey and gummed up, the temptation is to grab a kitchen spoon to guesstimate a teaspoon’s worth of liquid medicine.


These aren’t ballpark guesstimates. Mr. Collins, who is 51, keeps a stopwatch with three separate timers in his pocket at all times, stopping and starting them as he switches activities. Then he regularly logs the times into a spreadsheet.
