Definition
Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a progressive condition that affects both the adrenal glands (located atop the kidneys and responsible for the production of adrenalin) and myelin (the substance that insulates the nerves in the brain, spinal cord, and the limbs).
Description
First described in the early 1900s, adrenoleukodys-trophy was originally called Schilder-Addision disease. "Adreno" refers to the adrenal glands腎上腺, "leuko" is the Greek word for white (myelin is the main component of the white matter in the brain and spinal cord腦白質), and "dystrophy" means impaired growth營養障礙. This disease affects the adrenal glands and the growth of the myelin.


肌肉萎縮症(肌營養不良症,英語:Muscular dystrophy, MD),指一組損壞人體肌肉遺傳性疾病。肌營養不良症表現為進行性骨骼肌萎縮,肌肉蛋白質缺失,和肌肉細胞或組織的死亡。
