sit-in, “die-in” , turn the other cheek, civil disobedience, sit-ins, a bit of a cheek

A "die-in" protest inside New York's Grand Central Terminal. --From CNN's Carolyn Sung http://cnn.it/1wHsjWz ‪#‎EricGarner‬

Less than two weeks after a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer for killing an unarmed black man in Ferguson, Missouri, another grand jury—this one in New York City—ruled on a similar case, and delivered a similar verdict. Peaceful protests against the decision were organised within hours, including a multi-racial “die-in” at Grand Central Station http://econ.st/1zo9Z2h

Bloodshed sometimes works for autocrats, at least temporarily. But for protesters, taking up arms is usually a mistake. History suggests that, for most protest movements, violence is counterproductive: those that turn the other cheek, opting for civil disobedience, sit-ins and strikes rather than armed retaliation, tend to do best http://econ.st/1h7juZb

singular noun. You say that someone has a cheek when you are annoyed or shocked at something unreasonable that they have done. [informal] I'm amazed they had the cheek to ask in the first place. I still think it's a bit of a cheek sending avoucher rather than a refund.
