A powerful tropical cyclone with winds of up to 230 kilometres per
hour has swept ashore in central Mozambique. Cyclone Favio, the
strongest to hit the south-east African country, has brought heavy
rains and misery to tens of thousands of people already forced from
their homes by flooding. A second storm, Cyclone Gamede, has been

threatening to make landfall in central Mozambique before dawn
Friday. Angola, Zambia and Malawi have also been affected by stormy
