facsimile, simile, come around

On this date in 1946, Leonard Bernstein conducted the premiere of his and Jerome Robbins' ballet 'Facsimile.'
'Facsimile' was commissioned by American Ballet Theatre and was composed in the three weeks between the close of the 1946 season at Tanglewood and the opening of the New York City Symphony season. The ballet depicts "three insecure people", two men and a woman, who are involved in a tumultuous love triangle.
The intense nature of the ballet led ABT to revise it, lightening its tone, and even adding some vague humor. The revised work was first performed in April 1947.

Kung pao chicken, eggplant in hot garlic sauce, shredded pork with chili and soy — Sichuanese food has conquered the world. For many, it has become synonymous with Chinese food itself. My parents ate Sichuanese food as children in Mumbai. I grew up on it in Ohio. My children will probably grow up on it as well.
During a recent trip to Chengdu, though, I found a traditional cuisine broader, stranger and tastier than its facsimiles around the world.
