Major child cancer trial launched
Scientists are to test whether boosting the immune system can prevent the return of the childhood cancer neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma 是一好發於小孩的遺傳性癌症；在美國，一年大約有650個新病例產生，有50%的病例發生在1-2歲的孩子。針對此病症目前的臨床治療方法分別為:1.低度危險: 單純先觀察，不做任何治療或手術。
2.中度危險: 進行手術及化療。
3.高度危險: 密集性的化療、放射線治療或bone marrow/hematopoietic stem cell移植。
但有些孩子術後並不理想，特別是高度危險的neuroblastoma病人，針對這部分自1982年人們開始使用許多不同的臨床治療方法，例 如：2006年11月美國 FDA確定注射Iobenguane I-131 (I-131 MIBG)可治療高度危險neuroblastoma病人、2007年2月瑞典的一份臨床報告指出Celecoxib不僅可當作消炎鎮痛藥物，同時也可治 療neuroblastoma及抑制neuroblastoma發展，不過這部分只有動物及細胞實驗證據。
即使有許多臨床試驗，至今仍無法滿足部分不斷發病的孩子們。歸咎主要的原因是”neuroblastoma是如何的發生？”在這之前仍是未知；追根究底，要治療此遺傳性疾病就一定要先找出是那一基因出了問題。
