27.5 million Americans don’t have health insurance, a number that has risen steadily during Trump’s tenure. A 2018 poll found that 44 percent — nearly half — of Americans didn’t see a doctor because they couldn’t afford it, and that nearly a third didn’t get their prescriptions filled because it was too expensive. And another recent survey found that 90 percent of Americans still go to work while they’re sick.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband released a statement shortly before the convention opened that emphasized that their daughter plans to marry the father. As Republicans continued to adjust to yet another unexpected development that threatened to reshape the convention, campaign officials fought back suggestions that they didn't thoroughly vet Palin.
