Cisco Systems agreed to buy Norway's Tandberg for about $3 billion, expanding its push into so-called collaboration technologies.



The goal of the Collaboration Technologies effort is to research, develop, and deploy the middleware and technologies needed to advance distributed collaboratory environments. The research falls roughly into three categories.
  • Applications and middleware supporting informal and formal real-time collaboration between geographically remote researchers,
  • Reliable group communication mechanisms, and
  • Middleware enabling network aware applications.



Google and IBM are collaborating to promote use of online health records by allowing patients to add data.
