Two Great Tastes:a poetry slam and a stiff drink

Poetry is wonderful, but so is a nice stiff drink. Hey, wait a minute! On Sunday six poets pontificate on the virtues of six different whiskeys at the Fourth Annual Single Malt Scotch Holiday Poetry Slam. The audience gets to conduct its own taste test, voting on — and of course, drinking — the winner. Whiskeyish door prizes include a tweed sport jacket and a trip to the Equinox resort in Vermont.

5 p.m. Sunday, Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, at Bleecker Street, East Village, (212) 614-0505, $15-$20.

a stiff drink:先談Why "stiff" drink? 據 Shorter OED on "stiff"說,在19世紀稱呼酒烈(strong/ potent)。又指供應數量慷慨。
a poetry slam 這可簡稱slam,詩歌表演,不指是朗誦而已…..

The First World Cup Poetry Slam In Paris

The idea of a poetry competition probably doesn't conjure up a particularly exciting scene. It may make you think of a handful of wannabe poets reading from their latest collections, in front of an audience of reflective, well-behaved people, who clap politely at the end - not exactly everyone's idea of a great night out. But poetry slams are a little different. Because at these events, poems are performed, not read. And no one here claps politely. Genevieve Oger reports the recent international poetry slam in Bobigny just outside Paris.
